Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana and is the seventh child of Joseph and Katherine Jackson. Michael was married to, Elvis Presley's daughter, Lisa Marie for 18 months. After that, he married Debbie Rowe, who granted him a son, Prince Michael Jr., in 1997 and a daughter, Paris Michael Katherine, in 1998. In 2001 Michael adopted a son, Prince Michael Jr. II (a.k.a. Blanket).

He was one of the most commercially successful entertainers of all time. His unique contributions to music and dance made him a prominent figure in popular culture for four decades.
He started a solo career in 1971, having made his debut in 1964 as a member of The Jackson Five. His 1982 album Thriller remains the best-selling album of all time, with four others — Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory (1995) — among the best selling. He popularized several physically complicated dance moves, such as the robot and the moonwalk. He is widely credited with having transformed the music video from a promotional tool into an art form, with videos such as "Billie Jean", "Beat It" and Thriller making him the first African American to amass a strong crossover following on MTV.

A double-inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, his other achievements feature multiple Guinness World Records — including the "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time" — 13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles, and estimated sales of over 750 million records. He was also a notable philanthropist and humanitarian who donated millions of dollars to a record 39 charities, plus what he raised by way of his own Heal the World Foundation.

In 1993 and 2003, Michael faced allegations of child sexual abuse, and was eventually acquitted of these allegations on June 13, 2005.

In February 2009, Michael held a press conference in London and announced his This Is It concert tour containing 10 concerts, which later turned into 50 concerts, at the O2 Arena in London and called it his “final curtain call”. All 50 concerts were sold out within no time.

On June 25, 2009, Michael was rushed to the UCLA hospital suffering from cardiac arrest. His brother, Jermaine, broke the news that, at 2:26pm (PDT), his younger brother Michael, had passed away. On July 7, 2009 there was a public memorial held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Many celebrities, such as Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie and Mariah Carey, paid their tribute to Michael.
